Inter Snatch Ricky Alvarez Away From Arsenal
Inter have signed midfielder Ricky Alvarez from Velez Sarsfield for £10.8m, after the player was strongly linked with a move to Premier League side Arsenal.
A statement on Inter’s official website reads:
“Shortly after 10:30 this morning, Ricardo Gabriel Alvarez, or Ricky as he has been dubbed, arrived at Linate airport on a flight from London. The 23-year-old Argentine midfielder, who holds an Italian passport, is a natural talent and although he has been courted by all of the major European teams, Inter directors have managed to bring him to Italy with a Nerazzurri scarf already around his neck.”
“This is a dream come true for me and I can’t wait to start this wonderful adventure.”
Once a few minor details are resolved, Alvarez is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around £1.6 million per annum.
By all accounts Alvarez is a terrific talent who is reported be be technically brilliant. For Velez Sarsfield, Alvarez played last season as a trequartista, behind the offensive trio or as a left winger. His signing gives Inter a true attacking force on the left, and if they sign Nani, Inter will have two wide players this season that will terrorize and stretch defences in Serie A.
